2014 appears to have gotten off to a better start than recent years in new construction activity as the phones have been calling in the Contec Recruitment office with clients looking for construction management staff for projects kicking off in February and March. Roles have included:

  • Site Managers
  • Contract Administrators
  • Project Managers

Whilst overall the local market is still relatively quiet it is encouraging to see that things have slightly picked up so early in the year in the commercial construction market. Whilst residential construction figures released recently are encouraging, commercial construction figures have been lagging

Traditionally January is still a slower time in the year as half the month is usually lost to Christmas holidays and the 2-week industry shut-down but this year things have been different. In the last few years the GFC and overall slowdown seemed to have magnified this January slump.

This start to the year should be seen as a positive sign and will hopefully strengthen the optimism in the market, and we will see continued growth in the construction market in 2014

How did you find January 2014?
