2013 and 2014 have certainly been the years of significant change, including the repositioning of the major players in the construction sector within Australia. We have witnessed long standing reputable contractors get swallowed up in the down turn and many companies are certainly feeling the squeeze. It is interesting to read recent reports about Leighton Holdings and the repositioning of its key executive team members last week and what impact this will have on the it’s companies such as Thiess, John Holland and Leighton Contractors. Are we beginning to witness the changes required to establish a mega contractor in Australia or are we looking at another Lend Lease type merger where by the employees will be having to reapply for their jobs due to the restructuring process.

The one thing that is very clear is that we are witnessing a dramatic shift in the way business will be conducted in Australia and it will be interesting to see who will come out on top.
